Ever think about what your skin goes through in the course of a 24-hour period? We probably start out early in the morning with a hot shower, covering ourselves with lots of suds. Some of us take it a step further - using scrubs to exfoliate, removing dead skin cells along with taking a razor to remove unwanted stubble on our legs and under our arms. Then, after even more hot water, we emerge from the bath, vigorously rub ourselves down to dry off and proceed to get dressed and begin the day. Oh, and don't forget - since it's cool outside, our heater is blasting hot, dry air to keep us comfortably warm. Is it any wonder that our skin is thirsty, dry and irritated?
It's so easy to take good care of your most important organ (the skin) - here are a few tips:
1) Watch the time you spend in hot water - only use enough to moisten your skin to apply a cleansing solution (such as soap) and rinse off.
2) Choose a moisturizing formula for dry skin. Winter isn't the time to dry out your skin; even if you tend to have oily skin, treat it gently by cleansing more often instead of stressing it by trying to reduce the oils in your skin.
3) When you dry off, pat your skin dry, don't RUB it dry. Treat your skin like you would treat an infant - TENDERLY!
4) Select a lightly-scented moisturizing lotion and slather it all over your legs, arms, hands and feet. Your feet will show the results of this tender care within 2 weeks and you'll notice your legs feel smooth even when you first awaken.
5) Use a light, airy cologne fragrance to match your moisturizer. It's called 'layering' and will make your scent last and last, without being too strong. You don't have to use perfume if you layer your scent, so it's less expensive but just as effective.
6) ENJOY the feeling of smooth, cared for skin. It's not only a great feeling, it's taking good care of yourself and your body, a very important thing to do!
